Anyone up for a swim at Disney’s River Country? No? Yeah, I didn’t think so. Disney’s River Country has been abandoned for years, just rotting away by Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort. It closed it’s doors November 2, 2001 due to the fact that River Country contained too much bay water which carried deadly amoeba. For some time they used the area to test out problems with the wave pool at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon in order to fix them. Now it remains untouched and hidden behind a huge fence. It’s a shame they didn’t do anything to fix it up. Maybe one day, they will reopen it to make a new swimming area for the Wilderness Resort. I don’t believe it will ever happen though.
